Introduction to Lars von Trier

By Thomas Massaquoi

Dark clouds and monochrome toned cornfields. A young man lies in the middle looking at the sky pondering what to write or ponder the correct words to say. That has been me over the past few weeks. I’ve been pondering how to introduce my written section of thought. What topics to discuss and if I should stay or stray from the subject matter covered on the podcast.

This section will be dedicated to films, writers, actors and directors that are often not recognized for their contribution to the film community because their genre of film isn’t a blockbuster or their topic maybe to taboo or off the cuff for mainstream. Rather than offer critiques my article contribution will be more informational and attempts of offering moments of inspiration. I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you. A movie or series you should look into is the Depression Series by Lars von Trier featuring Antichrist, Melancholia and Nymphomaniac.

All three films offer different struggles of the human mind and emotion in a dark avant-garde perspective. The writing, cinematography, directing, scoring and acting make a quilt that will leave the viewer thinking and self-reflecting.
