Sounds of the West

This weekend my wife and I decided to rent a few movies from the Redbox and since I had not yet seen The Dark Tower I figured it would be perfect. Based on the novel series by Stephen King, this western, sci-fi, fantasy has excitement from the very first dream sequence as we witness The Man in Black use the minds of children to destroy the Dark Tower, to the final scene where we see our heroes succeed and ride off into the sunset, so to speak. With this movie was a wonderful soundtrack that was beautifully written and a lovely duet between a science fiction movie and a western; like the love child of A.I. and A Fistful of Dollars. After the movie i went on a western music binge and I just could not get enough. The whistles, the trumpets, and the way the strings just light up making you feel as if you are walking through a desert town, seeing a tumbleweed blow in the wind, and bursting through a saloon door.

Other fantastic western films that i highly recommend checking out are For a Few Dollars More, The Magnificent Seven, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Unforgiven, Tombstone, Dances with Wolves, and the obligatory The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

A few that are just fun, no matter how awful, are Wild Wild West, The Cherokee Kid, and The Ridiculous 6.

Do yourself a favor this week and grab a cowboy hat, pour yourself a glass, or few, of whiskey, and turn on one of these fantastic films. You will have more fun than even you could anticipate, plus there is no better way to watch a film than by immersing yourself into the film.
